In ages past after Areddir defeated the Red Tyrant the Empire of Areddian stretched from the western sea to the peaks of the White Mountains. This vast nation did not stand the test of time and generations of distrust, weak leadership, and conflict broke the empire into it’s core in the west and what are collectively known as the Free States of Talann. This shattering came about in a civil war lead by General Talann against the Empire of Areddian. In Areddian the war is called the Great Mistake; in Talann it is known as the War of the Twice Freed.
Talann is a region with no central rulership. The region is torn by politics and internal conflicts. Nations ebb and flow with time as alliances are formed and destroyed, sometimes in open war. The only thing truly tying the nations together is their desire to rule their own affairs free of any other interference and an external threat is the only thing which might unify the region against an invading foe.
Talann is a vast wilderness comprised of many dozens of states of feudal structure. The little of Talann which is civilized is centralized around the hubs of the city-states. Much of the untamed parts of Talann are strewn with ruins of both Elven and Dwarven origin and a number of Talann’s great cities are built on the ruins of those who had come before.
